Spain’s World Cup celebrations had a distinctly Canary Islands flavour.
While the official entertainment before the final featured international stars such as Shakira and Madonna, it was Quevedo’s music that became the soundtrack inside the Spanish dressing room after the final whistle.
A video shared on social media showed Pedri and Yéremy Pino celebrating Spain’s victory while dancing to Al Golpito, Quevedo’s collaboration with Tenerife group Nueva Línea.
Canary Islands pride on and off the pitch
The clip was posted by Yéremy Pino on Instagram and quickly caught the attention of football and music fans alike.
With shirts draped over their shoulders and celebrations in full swing, the two Canary Islands internationals enjoyed the moment after helping Spain lift its second World Cup trophy.
Pedri, from Tegueste in Tenerife, and Yéremy Pino, from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, have both become leading figures in Spanish football, and their success has once again shone a spotlight on the talent coming from the Canary Islands.
Quevedo’s music featured throughout the tournament
Quevedo’s connection to Spain’s World Cup campaign didn’t begin with the post-match celebrations.
Throughout the tournament, the Spanish team adopted La Graciosa, his collaboration with Elvis Crespo, as the song played over the stadium speakers every time Spain scored.
That meant millions of viewers around the world heard a track named after the Canary Islands’ eighth inhabited island as Spain progressed through the competition.
Blending Quevedo’s urban style with Elvis Crespo’s merengue rhythms, the song became one of the tournament’s most recognisable musical moments.
A message for Messi before kick-off
Hours before the World Cup final, Quevedo also joined the build-up with a light-hearted message on X aimed at Lionel Messi.
He wrote: “Hopefully the greatest of all time hears La Graciosa a couple of times today.”
It was both a nod to Messi’s status in world football and a playful wish that Spain would score more than once during the final.
A memorable Canary Islands contribution
From Pedri’s performances on the pitch to Yéremy Pino’s celebrations and Quevedo providing the soundtrack, the Canary Islands left their mark on Spain’s World Cup triumph in more ways than one.
It’s not every day that Tenerife and Gran Canaria help shape both the football and the playlist of a World Cup-winning team.
