Residents and visitors heading to La Laguna on 12 June should prepare for significant traffic restrictions as the city finalises security arrangements for the visit of Pope Leo XIV.
The operation will be one of the largest ever organised in the municipality, with extensive road closures, parking restrictions and access controls affecting much of the historic centre and surrounding areas.
Historic Centre Closed to Most Traffic
The City Council has confirmed that vehicles will be prohibited from circulating or parking throughout most of the historic centre.
Authorities are urging people to use public transport wherever possible, as access to the city centre will be heavily restricted throughout the morning.
Even delivery vehicles serving local businesses will not be permitted to enter the restricted area during the event.

Public Services Affected
Several public facilities will remain closed during the morning, including:
🏛️ Citizen Service Offices (San Agustín)
🛒 Municipal Market
📚 Adrián Alemán de Armas Library
The health centre near El Cristo will remain operational, although access and parking restrictions will apply.
The UNED centre will also remain open for students with scheduled exams, although access will be controlled and identification will be required.
Security Measures Across the City
In the days leading up to the visit, the council will remove street elements that could present security risks, including waste containers, while alternative arrangements will be provided for rubbish collection.
Emergency routes and evacuation corridors have also been established to ensure access for emergency services and security personnel throughout the event.
With tens of thousands of people expected to attend, officials are asking residents, businesses and visitors for patience and cooperation during what is being described as an unprecedented security operation for La Laguna.
