Tenerife Launches “Traditional Dress Is in Fashion” Campaign Ahead of Taganana Artisan Showcase

Traditional Canarian clothing is getting its own campaign.

And honestly… after the number of trajes de mago appearing every May, perhaps it was inevitable.

The Cabildo of Tenerife has launched “La Indumentaria está de moda” (Traditional Dress Is in Fashion), alongside the presentation of the III Traditional Clothing Artisan Trades Showcase, which will take place on 25 July in Taganana.

The campaign is organised through the Island Craft Company and the Tenerife Traditional Clothing Council, with support from Metropolitano de Tenerife.

Taganana Takes Centre Stage in July

The event will transform Taganana, in the heart of Anaga, into a meeting point for:

• Artisans
• Researchers
• Designers
• Supporters of Canarian traditions

The showcase focuses on the crafts and skills behind traditional island clothing, helping preserve techniques that have been passed down through generations.

The Tram Gets a Traditional Makeover

To promote the campaign, a specially wrapped Tenerife tram has been unveiled carrying the event artwork and campaign branding.

So over the coming weeks, the message will literally travel across the metropolitan area.

Not a bad bit of advertising really.

Keeping Tradition Relevant

Cabildo councillor Efraín Medina described traditional clothing as part of Tenerife’s identity and stressed the importance of preserving it while adapting it for modern audiences.

The aim is also to connect younger generations with traditional craftsmanship and show that island heritage can still feel relevant today.

As anyone who has tried buying proper Canarian dress recently already knows…

Traditional clothing in Tenerife is definitely not disappearing.
