This one’s a bit different… and actually quite interesting.
Tenerife is planning to allow pets inside certain museums, meaning you could soon be walking through exhibitions with your dog… or even a ferret.
Where It Applies
The measure will cover:
- Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA)
- Casa Lercaro
- Casa de Carta
So not everywhere, but some of the main sites on the island.
Not Fully Open Yet
It’s not live just yet.
There’s a 30-day public consultation period, and if nothing major comes up, they’ll move forward with it.
After that, there’ll be a 3-month trial phase to see how it actually works in practice.
How It Will Work
It’s not a free-for-all.
- Pets must be kept under control at all times
- Access will be limited to specific areas
- There’ll be a cap on numbers (around two animals per floor to start with)
- Owners are fully responsible for behaviour and cleaning up
So yes, pets are allowed… but within reason.
Why They’re Doing It
Partly down to the Animal Welfare Law, and partly just adapting to how people live now.
Not everyone has kids… plenty of people have pets instead, and they don’t always want to leave them behind.
Other museums across Spain have already tried similar ideas, so Tenerife is following that lead.
The Reality
It sounds unusual… but it might actually work.
As long as it’s controlled, it could make museums feel a bit more accessible without turning them into chaos.
We’ll see how that trial goes.
