Palm Sunday in La Laguna: A Morning of Tradition, Palms and Quiet Faith

Palm Sunday in La Laguna always has a certain feel to it.

Not rushed. Not loud. Just… steady.

A Simple Start to the Day

The morning began outside the Episcopal Palace.

Palms and olive branches were blessed… and from there, things slowly moved into the streets.

Nothing overcomplicated. Just people turning up, as they do every year.

The Procession Through the City

By midday, the procession of Jesus’ Entry into Jerusalem made its way through the historic centre.

Accompanied by the brotherhood, it followed the same familiar routes… the kind that don’t really change.

And that’s part of the point.

The Kids Take Centre Stage

If you notice anything straight away, it’s the children.

Palm fronds in hand, dressed up, walking alongside family… it’s their moment as much as anything else.

It keeps the whole thing grounded.

Across the City

The parishes of La Laguna also held their traditional blessings of palms, followed by processions winding through the cobbled streets of the historic centre.

There’s a certain mix to it… solemn, but not heavy.

You see it in the kids especially. Curious, engaged, taking it all in… not quite fully understanding it yet, but still part of it.

More Than Just Tradition

Palm Sunday isn’t just the start of Holy Week.

It’s a reminder that these traditions are still very much alive.

In La Laguna, it’s not forced. It just continues… year after year, passed on without much fuss.

Faith, culture, and family all mixed together in a way that feels natural.

A Week Begins

With palms raised and olive branches in hand, the city quietly steps into the week ahead.

There’s a sense that what you’re seeing now… especially with the younger ones… is what keeps it going.

Because in the end, that’s where it carries on from.

If You Were There

You’ll know the atmosphere.

If you weren’t… it’s one of the easier days of Holy Week to step into.

Nothing overwhelming… just a quiet start to everything that follows.
