18th Century Religious Piece Restored in Los Realejos… And It’s Proper Craftsmanship

This isn’t just a quick polish job…

It’s the full restoration of something that’s been around for centuries.

What’s Been Restored

The andas of the Virgen de los Remedios, housed in Santiago Apóstol Church (Los Realejos).

  • Dating back to the 18th century
  • Baroque style
  • Made from worked silver over a wooden structure

Not a small piece… and not easy to fix either.

The Work Behind It

A specialist team led by Silvano Acosta handled the restoration, alongside:

  • Restorer Silvano Acosta Jordán
  • Local artisan Anastasia Díaz Ramón

The focus was simple:

Restore what’s there… without losing what made it original.

Why It Was Needed

Time had taken its toll…

Wear, deterioration, and general ageing meant the piece needed proper intervention to avoid further damage.

The Investment

Total cost: €46,153

  • Cabildo → €26,153
  • Parish → €20,000

A shared effort… which is usually how these projects actually get done.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just about religion.

It’s about:

  • Local identity
  • Craftsmanship
  • Keeping historic pieces usable… not just stored away

And in towns like Los Realejos, these things still carry weight.

Worth Knowing

The andas will now continue to be used in religious celebrations

Not locked behind glass.

Which, honestly, is where these pieces make the most sense.
