A traditional Tenerife restaurant where rabbit is the star of the menu
There are still plenty of restaurants in Tenerife keeping traditional recipes and local produce firmly on the menu. One of them is Casa Rafael, a family-style restaurant in La Esperanza that has become a popular stop for anyone looking for homemade Canarian food in a simple, relaxed setting.
Rabbit is the star of the show
Although the menu includes a range of traditional Canarian dishes, there is one that stands out above the rest: rabbit.
It has become the restaurant’s signature dish and one of the main reasons locals and visitors make the trip to Casa Rafael.
They also offer a sharing tray of rabbit, which is ideal if you’re visiting with family or friends and want to make a proper meal of it.
Traditional Canarian cooking
Rabbit aside, Casa Rafael’s menu focuses heavily on traditional Canarian cuisine, with dishes including:
- Escaldón
- Garbanzas
- Seasoned tomatoes
- Padrón peppers
- Churros de pescado
- Croquettes
There are also other meat dishes, including quail and goat meat, with the restaurant sticking to homemade versions of traditional recipes.
And, naturally, there’s something sweet to finish things off, with a selection of homemade desserts available.
