Mesón de Antonio continues to attract diners with grilled meats, homemade Canarian dishes and a familiar atmosphere
There are restaurants in Tenerife where the fact that nothing much has changed is actually a good thing.
Restaurante Mesón de Antonio, in San Isidro, has built a loyal following over the years by sticking to what it does well: traditional Canarian food, grilled meats, generous portions and friendly service.
Food creator @elsiciliano_tenerife has been visiting for more than 10 years and says one of the things he likes most is that the restaurant still has the same atmosphere, the same character and many of the same staff.
That sort of consistency is becoming harder to find.
Traditional Canarian dishes and grilled meat
The menu features plenty of familiar Canarian favourites, including:
- Garbanzas
- Dressed tomatoes
- Padrón peppers
- Garlic prawns
- Goat meat
- Grilled cheese with mojo
The ropa vieja and mushroom and cheese croquettes are among the creator’s recommendations, with both regularly making an appearance on his table.
Then there’s the meat.
Mesón de Antonio has a strong reputation for its grilled meats, with options including veal chops, sirloin tips, entrecôte, steak, grilled chicken and mixed grills.
During his latest visit, @elsiciliano_tenerife enjoyed a milk-fed veal chop along with sirloin tips, which were available as an off-menu dish that day.
He describes it as one of his favourite Canarian restaurants in Tenerife for eating meat.
A restaurant that hasn’t lost its character
Food is obviously important, but the atmosphere is part of the appeal too.
The friendly service and familiar feel have remained consistent over the years, which is probably why so many customers keep coming back.
Add generous portions and reasonable prices and you have the sort of straightforward Tenerife restaurant that doesn’t need much explaining.
Good food, decent prices and people who remember you.
Not a bad combination.
