Tacoronte Receives €28,000 Grant for Historical Novel Festival

Tacoronte has secured €28,000 in funding from the Tenerife Council to support the sixth edition of its Historical Novel Festival, which will run from 5 to 15 November 2026.

The grant will help fund the Festival de Novela Histórica Ciudad de Tacoronte, an event that combines literature, historical research and cultural heritage. This year’s edition will put the spotlight on the role women have played in shaping the history of the Canary Islands.

Organised by Tacoronte Town Council’s Department of Culture, led by mayor Sandra Izquierdo, the festival has become an important part of the municipality’s cultural programme.

Women at the Centre of Canarian History

The main theme for 2026 is the contribution of women to the social, economic and cultural development of the Canary Islands.

Through talks, panel discussions and other cultural activities, the festival will explore historical figures, events and stories that have not always received the recognition they deserve.

The organisers also want to highlight the connection between historical research and fiction, showing how the lives and experiences of Canarian women can inspire contemporary historical novels.

Mayor Sandra Izquierdo said the festival offered an opportunity to recover these stories, give them greater visibility and help people develop a deeper understanding of the islands’ past.

The aim is to bring together writers, researchers and readers while encouraging fresh perspectives on the history and heritage of the Canaries.

Official Programme to Be Announced on 29 October

The full programme and official festival poster will be presented at a press conference on Thursday, 29 October, at the Auditorio Municipal Capitol in Tacoronte.

Further details of the events and activities will be announced at the presentation, ahead of the festival’s opening on 5 November.

The Tenerife Council’s €28,000 contribution will help the municipality continue developing the event and strengthen Tacoronte’s place on the Canary Islands’ cultural calendar.

For anyone interested in historical fiction, local heritage or the often-overlooked stories of women who helped shape the islands, November’s festival is one to keep an eye on.
