Fancy trying a few new places to eat without spending a fortune? Santa Cruz de Tenerife is bringing back the Ruta del Bocadillazo, giving local food businesses the chance to show off their creations for just €4.
The initiative will run from 12 November to 6 December 2026, with bars, cafés, restaurants and other food businesses in the city’s Southwest District invited to take part. The registration deadline for businesses is 10 November at 2pm.
Organised by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society and the Southwest District, the route forms part of the Disfruta en los Distritos programme, which aims to support small businesses and encourage people to explore the area’s food scene.
More Than Just a Sandwich
This year’s edition is broadening the definition of a sandwich, so participating businesses won’t be limited to the traditional bread roll.
The €4 food offering, excluding drinks, could include sandwiches, croissants, arepas, burgers and other creations made with different types of bread and dough.
A maximum of 30 establishments will be able to participate, including bars, restaurants, cafés, areperas and other similar venues operating in the Southwest District.
The participating neighbourhoods include El Sobradillo, La Gallega, Añaza, El Tablero, Barranco Grande, Tíncer, Santa María del Mar, Acorán, El Chorrillo, Llano del Moro, El Rosarito, El Draguillo and Alisios.
The Public Gets to Choose the Winners
It’s not just about eating your way around the district. Customers will also have a say in deciding which creations deserve recognition.
A dedicated web app will allow people to browse participating establishments, check out their food offerings and vote for their favourites.
The seven most popular entries will then go before a specialist jury connected to the local food scene, which will select the three overall winners.
The prizes are:
- First place: €200, a diploma and promotional coverage.
- Second place: €150, a diploma and promotional coverage.
- Third place: €100, a diploma and promotional coverage.
There is also something in it for the voters. Anyone who registers their vote through the web app will be entered into a draw to win one of three €60 gift vouchers, redeemable at one or more participating businesses.
How Businesses Can Sign Up
Food businesses operating within the Southwest District can register online until 10 November 2026 at 2pm. Applications will be processed in the order they arrive, so leaving it until the last minute probably isn’t the best plan.
Businesses can apply through the online registration form. The participation rules are available on the Santa Cruz Development Society website.
The route offers local businesses a chance to attract new customers, while giving residents and visitors another reason to explore the Southwest District. And at €4 a serving, trying somewhere new won’t need to involve a major financial commitment.
