Santa Cruz Launches Four Events to Boost Local Shops, Food and Traditions

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is taking its local shopping and food scene on a tour of the city’s districts, with four events planned between October and December as part of the third edition of Disfruta en los distritos.

The initiative aims to support local businesses by giving residents more reasons to shop, eat and spend time in their own neighbourhoods. After Plenilunio in the Centro-Ifara district, the programme moves to Ofra-Costa Sur, Anaga, Suroeste and Salud-La Salle.

There’s a bit of everything planned, from shopping prizes and traditional markets to tapas, local wines and a route dedicated to seriously filling sandwiches.

Ofra-Costa Sur: Shopping Rewards and Street Entertainment

The first event is Día del Comercio in Ofra-Costa Sur, with activities running through to 14 November.

More than 40 local businesses are taking part in the Premiamos tus compras campaign, which runs until 13 November.

Spend more than €5 at participating shops or restaurants and you can enter a draw for one of 30 gift vouchers, each worth €50 and redeemable at participating businesses.

Street entertainment will run from 26 October to 13 November, including parades and activities designed to encourage people to explore the shops.

The main event takes place on 14 November in the car park at Centro Comercial Los Príncipes. Expect a market featuring local businesses, games, bouncy castles, children’s workshops, fashion shows, live music and a radio broadcast. There will also be prize-wheel activities and live draws for the gift vouchers.

Anaga: A Market Celebrating Canarian Traditions

On 7 November, the Mercadillo de las Tradiciones arrives in San Andrés.

The market will be spread around the Infobox area, Avenida Pedro Schwartz and Plaza Ramón Guillermo Cruz Cabrera.

Local craftspeople, producers and businesses will showcase their work, with the aim of celebrating Canarian culture and traditions.

There will also be exhibition areas, children’s workshops, food tastings and live folk music. A good opportunity to browse local products and enjoy a bit of traditional island culture.

Suroeste: The Return of the Bocadillazo Route

Sandwich fans have something to look forward to as well.

From 12 November to 6 December, the Ruta del Bocadillazo will involve 30 establishments in the Suroeste district.

This year’s edition expands beyond sandwiches to include toasted sandwiches, arepas and burgers, all priced at €4 each, without a drink.

There will also be prizes for participants, giving people another reason to try a few different local establishments.

Salud-La Salle: Tapas and Tenerife Wines

The final event in the programme is the Feria Gastronómica de Tapas y Vinos, taking place at Parque La Granja on 28 November, from 5pm to 11pm.

More than 20 stalls will offer local food and wines carrying Tenerife’s Denominación de Origen designation.

Music and children’s workshops will round off the evening, making it an option for families as well as anyone keen to sample local food and wine.

Event Dates at a Glance

  • Ofra-Costa Sur: Shopping campaign until 13 November, with the main event on 14 November.
  • Anaga: Traditional market in San Andrés on 7 November.
  • Suroeste: Bocadillazo food route from 12 November to 6 December.
  • Salud-La Salle: Tapas and wine fair at Parque La Granja on 28 November, 5pm to 11pm.
