A change could be coming to two of El Médano’s best-known beaches.
The Granadilla de Abona Council is planning to replace the current beach kiosks at La Jaquita and El Cabezo with new, larger beach bars designed with modern facilities, terraces and public toilets.
If approved, the existing kiosks will disappear in favour of upgraded hospitality spaces built specifically for beach use.
What’s Planned?
Each development would include:
• A main beach bar unit
• Separate toilets and storage facilities
• Outdoor pergola area
• Wooden terrace with seating space
The new buildings would have an enclosed area of around 31 m², plus outdoor platforms of approximately 50 m².
In simple terms…
More seating. More shade. More space by the beach.
Public Toilets and Accessibility Included
The projects also include:
• Public toilets
• Accessible facilities for reduced mobility users
• Water, drainage and electricity connections
• Compliance with safety and fire regulations
A small detail perhaps… but public toilets near beaches always seem to become important very quickly in Tenerife.
Built for Coastal Conditions
The structures are planned using laminated wood and specially treated materials designed to cope with:
• Sea air
• Humidity
• Corrosion
• Coastal exposure
Which is sensible.
Beachfront furniture in Tenerife tends to have a fairly tough life.
Still Open for Public Review
The proposals are currently on public display while the approval process continues.
The council says the existing kiosks are now too small and no longer meet current visitor needs.
For regular El Médano visitors…
More space and better facilities by the beach will probably be welcomed.
Assuming they still keep the relaxed El Médano feel and don’t turn into something trying too hard.
