Mermelada de Tomate Wins Again at the Canary Islands Pizza Championship

Good pizza is serious business in Tenerife.

And once again, Mermelada de Tomate in Tacoronte has proved it knows exactly what it’s doing.

The local pizzeria picked up two major awards at the Canary Islands Pizza Championship, held during GastroCanarias 2026 at the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz.

Not bad for the second year running.

Two Awards for the Tacoronte Pizzeria

This year, Mermelada de Tomate took home:

🏆 Best Image Award
🏆 1st Prize – Classic Pizza Category

The championship, now in its seventh edition, brought together some of the best Italian food professionals from across the Canary Islands on the GastroCanarias Heineken stage.

Which means competition wasn’t exactly light.

Recognition for Luciano Lucia and the Team

Special congratulations were given to chef Luciano Lucia, recognised for his work during the competition, alongside the whole team behind the restaurant.

The pizzeria has become something of a local reference point in Tacoronte for quality and consistency.

And honestly… winning pizza competitions two years in a row tends to help.

Tenerife and Its Unexpected Pizza Obsession

Tenerife has quietly built a pretty strong pizza scene over the years.

Some places take it very seriously.

Wood-fired ovens.

Slow dough fermentation.

Italian flour discussions that somehow become philosophical debates.

You know the type.

For Mermelada de Tomate though, the results speak for themselves.

🍅🍕 Congratulations to the team.
