May Begins the Romería Season in La Laguna… The First Romerías Arrive

You can feel it every year…

May arrives, and things start to shift.

Where It Begins

Across La Laguna, the first romerías start to appear.

Not the biggest ones yet…

But enough to set the tone.

Areas like:

  • Tejina
  • Valle de Guerra
  • San Matías

All start things off.

What You’ll See

The usual mix… but it never really gets old:

  • Traditional dress
  • Decorated carts
  • Parrandas playing all day
  • Food, wine, and people everywhere

And that slow, steady movement through the streets.

It Builds Week by Week

May is just the warm-up.

By June and July, things step up properly…

Leading into San Benito Abad, which is easily one of the biggest on the island.

Then you’ve got:

  • Guamasa
  • Las Carboneras
  • El Ortigal

Each adding their own version to the calendar.

More Than Just a Party

These aren’t just events for the sake of it.

They’re where:

  • Traditions get passed on
  • Communities actually mix
  • The rural side of Tenerife stays visible

Which matters more than people think.

Worth Knowing

If you’re new to it…

Start in May.

It’s a bit less hectic, easier to follow, and you get a feel for how it all works.

Then by summer…

You’ll know exactly where to be.
