Some groups become successful.
Others become part of the identity of a place.
Los Sabandeños crossed that line a long time ago.
This week, the legendary Canarian folk group returns home to La Laguna to close its 60th anniversary tour with three special concerts at the Teatro Leal.
And honestly, there aren’t many groups in the Canary Islands that can fill a theatre for three nights purely on nostalgia, tradition and songs everybody somehow already knows the words to.
Concert Dates at Teatro Leal
📅 28, 29 and 30 May 2026
🕗 20:00h
📍 Teatro Leal, La Laguna
The concerts also form part of the celebrations surrounding Día de Canarias.
A Return to Where It All Began
Los Sabandeños was founded in 1966 in the university environment of San Cristóbal de La Laguna.
Sixty years later, they’re back in the city where it all started.
The concerts will revisit many of the group’s most iconic songs, paying tribute to the music that has accompanied generations of Canarians over the decades.
Songs that instantly transport people back somewhere.
Usually with a glass of wine nearby.
Special Guest: Virginia Guantanamera
Joining the group for these performances will be Cuban singer and songwriter Virginia Guantanamera, an artist with more than 40 years of musical career and three Cubadisco Awards to her name.
A fitting guest for a celebration built around Latin roots, tradition and musical heritage.
Six Decades of Canarian Music History
Over the years, Los Sabandeños have become one of the most recognised musical groups in Canarian history, taking the sound of the islands across Europe and Latin America.
They’ve collaborated with artists including:
🎵 María Dolores Pradera
🎵 Alfredo Kraus
🎵 Mercedes Sosa
And released almost 100 albums along the way.
Works such as La Cantata del Mencey Loco and Misa Sabandeña remain deeply connected to Canarian cultural identity even today.
Not bad for a university folk group that started back in the 60s.
