Los Cristianos Hosts Spain’s Under-19 Beach Volleyball Championship from 24th to 26th July

Los Cristianos is set to welcome some of Spain’s most promising young beach volleyball players when it hosts the Spanish Under-19 Beach Volleyball Championship from 24th to 26th July.

Over three days, the beach will become the centre of junior beach volleyball in Spain, with the country’s best regional teams competing for the national title in both the men’s and women’s tournaments.

Spain’s future stars head to Tenerife

The championship will bring together the strongest Under-19 regional squads from across the country, giving young athletes the chance to compete at one of the most important events on the national calendar.

For many of the players, the tournament represents a significant step in their development as they gain experience against the best emerging talent in Spanish beach volleyball.

A beach with volleyball history

Los Cristianos isn’t just another venue.

The beach played an important role in the growth of beach volleyball in Spain during the 1990s, hosting tournaments that helped establish the sport at a national level.

Among those who competed here was Sixto Jiménez, one of Spain’s beach volleyball pioneers, who later represented the country alongside Javier Bosma at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. The pair finished fifth, earning an Olympic diploma in the first Games where beach volleyball became an official Olympic sport.

That history has helped cement Los Cristianos as one of Spain’s recognised beach volleyball destinations.

Ideal conditions for year-round sport

Thanks to Tenerife’s warm climate, Los Cristianos has continued to attract competitions, training camps and athletes throughout the year.

The combination of reliable weather, quality facilities and a beach ideally suited to the sport has made Arona a popular base for beach volleyball long after those early tournaments.

A major event for Arona

The championship is organised by the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation and the Canary Islands Volleyball Federation, with support from the Arona Municipal Sports Board, Tourism of Arona and the Cabildo of Tenerife.

As well as showcasing the next generation of Spanish talent, the event is expected to bring visitors, teams and supporters to the resort, adding another sporting highlight to Tenerife’s busy summer calendar.

Whether you’re a beach volleyball fan or simply passing through Los Cristianos, it’s a great opportunity to watch some of Spain’s brightest young players in action against the backdrop of one of Tenerife’s best-known beaches.
