La Laguna Starts Preparing for Christmas 2026 Months Ahead of Switch-On

It might still feel like summer, but Christmas is already on the agenda in La Laguna.

The council has begun preparations for this year’s festive lighting campaign, with work getting underway well in advance to ensure everything is ready for the official switch-on later in the year.

More Than 3,500 Decorations Planned

The 2026 display will include more than 3,500 decorative features spread across the municipality.

According to Councillor for Municipal Services Fran Hernández, starting early is essential given the scale of the project.

The aim is to make sure the festive displays reach not only the historic town centre but also villages and neighbourhoods throughout the municipality.

Early Work Already Underway

Preparation work has already started in several areas, including:

  • Heraclio Sánchez
  • Juan de Vera
  • San Juan

Infrastructure is being put in place ahead of the installation of the lights, with work expected to continue over the coming months.

By starting now, the council hopes to reduce disruption to traffic and everyday life when the main installation begins.

New Ideas with a Sustainable Approach

This year’s Christmas campaign will introduce some new decorative features while also making use of decorations from previous years.

As in recent years, all of the lighting will use low-energy LED technology, helping to reduce electricity consumption and lessen the environmental impact of the festive displays.

The contractor responsible for the project will oversee the installation, maintenance and eventual removal of the decorations as part of the agreed contract, with no additional cost to the council.

Supporting the Community

The council says the Christmas decorations are about more than simply lighting the streets.

The festive displays are intended to encourage people to spend time in the town, support local businesses and create a welcoming atmosphere across the municipality.

Rather than focusing solely on the busiest areas, the plan is to spread the decorations throughout La Laguna while respecting the character of each neighbourhood.

With months still to go before Christmas officially arrives, the groundwork is already being laid for another festive season in one of Tenerife’s most historic towns.
