Fancy Designing the 2027 Santa Cruz Carnival Poster?

If you’ve got a creative streak and fancy seeing your work all over one of Tenerife’s biggest events, here’s your chance.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife has officially opened the competition to design the poster and visual identity for the 2027 Carnival, which will be themed “Eternal Rome: The Empire of Carnival.”

The competition opens on Monday, with entries being accepted until 29th July.

According to Santa Cruz Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, the idea behind the competition is to give local artists and designers the opportunity to put their own stamp on the city’s biggest international celebration. He also praised the standard of work submitted in previous years, so there’s certainly some talent on the island.

How the competition works

The process takes place in three stages.

First, designers submit their initial concept online between 29th June and 29th July. Full details and the competition rules are available at carnavaldetenerife.com, and all entries must be submitted electronically.

Once the entry period closes, a judging panel will choose five finalists.

Those finalists will then have 30 days to develop their original idea into a complete Carnival branding proposal.

Finally, the public gets the deciding vote. Voting will remain open for seven days, allowing residents and Carnival fans to choose the winning design.

The prizes

The overall winner will receive €12,000, while each of the four remaining finalists will be awarded €1,000 for reaching the final stage.

If you’re a designer, illustrator or simply someone with a great idea, it could be well worth having a go. After all, there aren’t many opportunities to have your artwork become part of one of the world’s most famous carnivals.
