The celebrations for San Benito Abad 2026 in La Laguna are now almost complete after the selection of the festival’s Child Romera and Senior Romera during a gala held on Sunday at the Teatro Leal.
Triana Déniz was chosen as Child Romera, while Milagros Báez was named Senior Romera, completing this year’s line-up of festival ambassadors following the election of María Cristina Déniz as Romera Mayor the previous evening.
Triana Déniz will be accompanied by her ladies-in-waiting Attenya Chinea, Sara Adriana Pérez, Alyson Rosell and Marina Chávez. Joining Milagros Báez on the senior court will be Rosa María Fragoso, Elsa Amada Fernández, Jacqueline Sinisterra and Candelaria Delgado.
The gala was hosted by journalist Alexis Hernández and featured performances by the Asociación Músico-Cultural Minfaya, with soloists Alejandro Díaz, Besay Díaz and Leirem Ramos, the Princesa Iraya Children’s Dance School, and Los Benahoare from La Palma, accompanied by soloists Miriam Reyes and Virginia Rodríguez.
The evening also included the VIII Pedro Molina Memorial, which this year honoured José Manuel Izquierdo de la Cruz, known as “Tato”, in recognition of his dedication to preserving the municipality’s traditional trades.
La Laguna Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and Councillor for Festivals Dailos González praised the high level of participation, highlighting the colourful traditional costumes and the enthusiasm shown by the 57 contestants who took part across all categories over the weekend.
Attention now turns to the biggest events of the festival, with the popular Baile de Magos taking place on Friday night, followed by the famous Regional Romería on Sunday, one of Tenerife’s largest and most cherished traditional celebrations.
