If you fancy an evening of music with a bit of soul, Camané is bringing his unmistakable voice to Teatro Leal in La Laguna on Sunday, 18 October.
The Portuguese singer performs as part of the Canary Islands Fado Festival, with the concert starting at 7pm. Camané is widely regarded as one of the leading voices in fado, the traditional Portuguese music known for its emotional depth, haunting melodies and stories of love, longing and life.
One of Portugal’s great fado voices
Camané has spent decades establishing himself as one of the most respected figures in Portuguese music, earning acclaim both at home and internationally.
His repertoire includes songs such as Sei de um Rio, A Complicadíssima Teia, A Guerra das Rosas and Senhora do Livramento. They’re the sort of songs that stay with you long after the music stops.
But he’s not simply an artist revisiting old favourites. Camané has continued to explore new musical directions throughout his career, including a collaboration with celebrated Portuguese pianist Mário Laginha.
Their project, Aqui Está-se Sossegado, brought voice and piano together in a more intimate setting and reached number one in the Portuguese album charts. It also picked up awards at the Play Portuguese Music Awards.
A career that keeps moving forward
Camané has received plenty of recognition over the years, including the prestigious Premio Tenco in 2017.
More recently, his tribute to Portuguese musician José Mário Branco, recorded at Lisbon’s Centro Cultural de Belém in 2024, earned further critical praise and another Play Award for Best Fado Album. The project also brought him a second Latin Grammy nomination.
Despite that impressive list of achievements, Camané remains focused on what comes next rather than simply looking back at past successes.
For anyone who enjoys live music with genuine feeling, this should be a worthwhile evening.
