Best Things to Do in Tenerife This Weekend: 18th to 20th July

If you’re spending the weekend in Tenerife, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do.

From traditional seaside fiestas and live music to sport, family events and late-night street parties, towns across the island have a packed programme of entertainment between Friday 18th and Sunday 20th July.

Here’s a look at some of the highlights.

Fiestas del Carmen take centre stage

This weekend belongs to the Fiestas del Carmen, one of Tenerife’s most important and well-loved summer celebrations.

Held in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of fishermen, these fiestas bring together live music, religious ceremonies, local food, dancing and colourful processions that have been part of island life for generations.

Whether you’re visiting or have lived in Tenerife for years, they’re always worth experiencing at least once.

Varadero celebrates by the sea

The fishing village of Varadero, in Santiago del Teide, continues its celebrations throughout the weekend.

On Saturday 19th July, the Virgen del Carmen procession begins at 8.00pm, followed by a traditional verbena from 11.00pm, where locals and visitors dance well into the night.

The celebrations continue again on Sunday afternoon with more community events from around 5.00pm.

It’s exactly the sort of local fiesta Tenerife does so well. Relaxed, friendly and centred around the community.

Ravelo offers something for everyone

The village of Ravelo, in El Sauzal, has one of the busiest programmes of the weekend.

Friday evening kicks off with a Drag Show at 9.00pm, followed by dancing.

On Saturday, there’s entertainment throughout the day, including children’s activities from 11.00am, Canarian wrestling at 7.00pm, and another lively verbena from 10.30pm.

Sunday features a motor show in the morning before live entertainment continues during the afternoon.

International basketball comes to Santa Cruz

If sport is more your thing, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting the International Under-18 Women’s Basketball Tournament throughout the weekend.

The competition brings together talented young players from several countries and offers the chance to watch high-quality basketball completely free.

Plenty happening across the island

Away from the headline events, towns across Tenerife continue to host concerts, village fiestas, markets and family activities throughout the weekend.

July is one of the liveliest months on the island, with many municipalities celebrating their annual summer festivals, so wherever you happen to be, there’s a good chance something is taking place nearby.

Looking beyond Tenerife?

If you’re travelling to another Canary Island this weekend, there are plenty of other events worth knowing about.

Gran Canaria is hosting the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival, one of the biggest free music festivals of the summer, alongside the traditional Fiestas de Santiago in Gáldar and the famous Verbena del Agua in Teror.

Meanwhile, Lanzarote is also celebrating the Fiestas del Carmen, with coastal processions, live music and family events taking place across the island, including the beautiful maritime procession in La Graciosa.

Whether you’re after traditional Canarian culture, live music, food or simply a good excuse to get out and explore, this weekend offers plenty of reasons to enjoy everything Tenerife has to offer.
