Benito Cabrera Brings Canarian Tradition to Teatro Leal with Islas y Cuerdas

The timple may be a small instrument, but it’s one of the biggest symbols of Canarian music.

This week, acclaimed musician Benito Cabrera will place it centre stage at Teatro Leal in La Laguna with Islas y Cuerdas, a concert that blends the sound of the Canary Islands with the elegance of chamber music.

The performance forms part of the 2nd International Campus Ciudad de La Laguna, celebrating the islands’ musical heritage through a fresh and original programme.

A Meeting of Tradition and Classical Music

Rather than keeping traditional and classical music in separate worlds, Islas y Cuerdas brings them together.

The concert pairs the distinctive sound of the Canarian timple with a string ensemble, creating a performance that moves between folk traditions and classical influences while showcasing the richness of the islands’ musical identity.

It’s a format that highlights just how versatile the timple can be.

An Evening at Teatro Leal

The concert takes place on:

  • Tuesday 29 July
  • 8.00pm
  • Teatro Leal, La Laguna

Tickets are available through the Tickety booking platform or directly from the Teatro Leal box office.

The box office is located at Calle Obispo Rey Redondo, 50, opening Monday to Saturday from 11.00am to 1.00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm, while on Sundays it opens two hours before the performance.

Celebrating Canarian Culture

Benito Cabrera has spent years promoting the music and traditions of the Canary Islands, and Islas y Cuerdas continues that work by introducing audiences to the timple in a different musical setting.

For anyone with an interest in Canarian culture, classical music or simply discovering something a little different, it promises to be a memorable evening in one of Tenerife’s most historic theatres.
