One of Europe’s most celebrated contemporary dance companies is heading to Tenerife this July as GöteborgsOperans Danskompani makes its only stop in Spain as part of MAPAS 2026 at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
Audiences will have the chance to experience two acclaimed productions, including the internationally acclaimed Hammer and the double bill ima & Wild Poetry.
Hammer Takes Centre Stage
Created by award-winning Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, Hammer features 31 international dancers in a visually spectacular production that explores modern society, social media and the culture of self-image through humour, energy and striking choreography.
Performed in two acts, the production has sold out theatres around the world and is regarded as one of GöteborgsOperans Danskompani’s greatest successes.
Performances take place in the Symphony Hall on:
- 11th July at 7:30pm
- 12th July at 6:00pm
Two World-Class Choreographers in One Evening
The festival continues on 14th July with a special double bill.
The evening opens with ima, choreographed by Sharon Eyal, whose hypnotic and emotionally charged style has captivated audiences worldwide. The production also features costume design by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the former Creative Director of Dior.
After the interval, audiences will enjoy Wild Poetry, created by internationally renowned choreographer Hofesh Shechter. Performed by 16 dancers, the work combines powerful physical movement with atmospheric music to create an immersive and constantly evolving performance.
Since its premiere in 2023, Wild Poetry has been praised by critics and audiences across Europe.
MAPAS 2026 Finale
The festival concludes on 24th July with Bodies of Water, choreographed by Spanish choreographer Iván Pérez and performed by Dance Theatre Heidelberg.
The production explores humanity’s emotional and physical connection with water through an intense and visually captivating contemporary dance performance.
Tickets
General admission is €15, while tickets for those under 30 cost €5. Additional discounts are available for students, jobseekers and large families.
A MAPAS partial season pass, covering the remaining three productions (Hammer, ima & Wild Poetry and Bodies of Water), is also available for €39.
