The Isla Calavera Zombie Walk in La Laguna has been moved from Saturday 31 October to Sunday 1 November following the official mourning period declared after the fatal railway accident in Toledo.
The popular Halloween parade normally takes over the streets of La Laguna’s historic centre, with hundreds of people turning up in elaborate zombie costumes and rather impressive make-up.
Organisers decided to postpone this year’s event as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives and their families.
New date and times for the Isla Calavera Zombie Walk
The meeting point remains Plaza del Adelantado, where activities will begin at 5pm.
Visitors can turn up in costume, take part in the make-up sessions and get ready for the main event. The zombie parade will set off at 8pm, making its way through the historic streets of La Laguna.
Canarian actor and comedian Aarón Gómez will be one of the main faces of this year’s event. He features on the official poster and will also take on the role of Grand Master of Ceremonies.
The organisers are encouraging residents and visitors to come along, dress up as something suitably terrifying and join the rather unusual procession through the city.
The event will now take place a day after the traditional Halloween celebrations, but the zombies are still very much coming to town.
Organisers have also expressed their support for everyone affected by the railway accident in Toledo, explaining that this was the reason behind the change of date.
