CD Tenerife had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Sabadell at Nova Creu Alta, with Enric Gallego coming to the rescue just eight minutes after the hosts took the lead.
Álvaro Cervera’s side went into the match looking to turn a run of draws into a much-needed victory. It was always going to be a tough task against a Sabadell team unbeaten on home soil.
The first half ended goalless, although Tenerife had opportunities through Nacho Gil, Gallego and Christian Gomis. Sabadell also threatened, but neither side managed to find the breakthrough before the interval.
That changed shortly after the restart. Óscar Sanz put the hosts ahead from a free-kick delivered from the side by Ton Ripoll, leaving Tenerife with work to do.
Thankfully, the response was swift. Just eight minutes later, Gallego rose to head home from close range after a delivery from Gil, bringing Tenerife level and giving the visitors fresh momentum.
Cervera then made several changes in an attempt to find a winner, introducing Jesús Álvarez and Martin Pecar before later bringing on Dani Fernández, Jesús de Miguel and Fabricio.
Tenerife pushed for a late breakthrough, with Fernández coming particularly close when his free-kick skimmed past the post.
In the end, neither side could find another goal, and the points were shared.
There were positives in Tenerife’s response after going behind, but another draw leaves them still waiting for the victory they need to get their campaign moving in the right direction.
