Clowning around in Costa Adeje this weekend

If you fancy something a bit different this weekend, Costa Adeje is getting two evenings of circus, comedy and general clowning around as the International Clownbaret Festival, FIC 2026, celebrates its 20th anniversary.

On Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October, Plaza Salytien and Calle Rafael Puig Lluvina will become an open-air stage, with seven performances from a mix of Spanish and international artists.

And before anyone says they don’t like clowns… these aren’t your traditional birthday-party clowns.

Friday night

Things get started at 19:00 on Friday in Plaza Salytien with Paul Morocco and Duo Olé.

Morocco mixes comedy, music, flamenco and circus skills, joined by guitarist and flamenco performer Marcial Heredia.

At 20:00, the action moves to Calle Rafael Puig Lluvina for Tuga and Con su permiso.

Tuga is a Chilean street performer who mixes mime, physical theatre, improvisation and clowning, with the audience becoming part of the show.

Then at 21:00, it’s back to Plaza Salytien for Spinish Circo and Fins al cel.

Seven performers will bring together acrobatics, Russian bar, banquine, human pyramids, movement and live music.

Basically, don’t expect anyone to be standing still for very long.

Saturday evening

Saturday gets underway at 18:30 with Eddy Eighty and The Power of the 80’s.

The character is the creation of Valencian performer Gonzalo Santamaría, who combines juggling, balancing acts and comedy with a generous dose of 1980s nostalgia.

At 19:30, Compagnie de La Liberté takes over with aaAhh BIBI, created by Julien Cottereau.

It’s a strange and rather charming mix of clowning, mime, physical theatre and sound effects, with Cottereau creating characters and an entire little world largely without spoken dialogue.

At 20:30, Tuga returns with another performance of Con su permiso.

And the weekend programme finishes at 21:30 with Spinish Circo and Fins al cel back in Plaza Salytien.

Something a bit different

The FIC is celebrating 20 years of bringing circus, clowning and comedy to Tenerife, and the Costa Adeje programme is a good example of what makes it different from your standard theatre outing.

The performances are outside, they’re free-flowing and they’re designed for all ages.

You can wander along, grab something to eat, find a spot and watch some very talented people doing things with their bodies that most of us probably shouldn’t attempt after a couple of beers.
