Barcelona player Gerard Martín visits a guachinche in Tenerife

FC Barcelona player Gerard Martín has been enjoying some time in Tenerife and found his way to one of the island’s traditional food spots during his stay.

The footballer visited Guachinche La Maestra in Las Chafiras, San Miguel de Abona, where he stopped for some traditional Canarian food and spent time with the restaurant’s team.

The restaurant shared a photograph with Martín on social media and thanked him for the visit, adding a rather nice “Welcome home” message.

A taste of traditional Tenerife

Guachinche La Maestra has been serving food in the south of Tenerife since 1995.

It’s located on the TF-65 in Las Chafiras and serves traditional Canarian dishes with a slightly more modern approach.

The menu includes favourites such as escaldón de gofio, grilled cheese with mojo, along with a selection of fish and meat dishes, roasted meats and homemade desserts.

So, if you’re expecting footballers to survive entirely on quinoa and protein shakes while they’re on holiday, apparently not.

Martín exploring Tenerife

The Barcelona player has also been sharing glimpses of his time on the island.

One photograph showed him on the steps leading down to Abama Beach, while another showed him with his partner at Los Gigantes Beach.

It’s not clear whether all of the photographs were taken during the same part of his trip or whether they were directly connected with his visit to La Maestra.

Either way, it looks as though Martín has managed to fit a bit of sightseeing around his time on the island.

Guachinche La Maestra

If you’re tempted to try the place that hosted the Barça player, Guachinche La Maestra is open:

  • Monday to Saturday: 13:00 to 23:00
  • Sunday: 13:00 to 17:00

Takeaway and reservations are also available.

The restaurant’s social media post has given this southern Tenerife guachinche a bit of extra attention, thanks to an unexpected visitor from one of football’s biggest clubs.
