Luz Casal brought her “Me voy a permitir” tour to the Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna on Friday, performing a mixture of new material and some of the best-known songs from her career.
The concert formed part of the Fiestas del Cristo 2026, with the singer treating the audience to favourites including Loca, No me importa nada, Rufino and Te dejé marchar.
But the celebrations aren’t quite finished yet. There’s still a busy weekend of music, sport, family activities and traditional events before the festivities finally draw to a close.
Saturday 19 September
The Plaza del Cristo will host the third edition of the Siroco Independent Music Festival, featuring:
- León Benavente
- Victorias
- Cervatana
- Los Blosy
- Belinda
Saturday’s programme also includes guided visits to historic monuments and artistic performances as part of Las Noches del Patrimonio.
Over at the Juan Ríos Tejera Pavilion, the XXXVII Ciudad de La Laguna Volleyball Tournament continues, with CV Haris facing CV Cuesta Piedra at 5:00 p.m.
Sunday 20 September
Sunday gets underway at 10:00 a.m. with the third edition of the Children’s Fair in the Plaza del Cristo. Expect attractions, workshops, music and family entertainment.
At 11:00 a.m., the Casa del Ganadero will host the final of the XXXVIII Rural Foundation Tenerife Dragging Contest, competing for the Government of the Canary Islands Trophy.
Then, at midday, the University of La Laguna’s Symphonic Band will perform its traditional festival concert at the Cathedral Plaza.
Music continues at 5:00 p.m. with the XI Achamán Festival, featuring the well-known Canarian group Los Gofiones.
Volleyball returns at the Juan Ríos Tejera Pavilion at 12:00 p.m., when CV Cuesta Piedra takes on CV Aguere.
Monday 21 September: The Final Celebration
The Fiestas del Cristo will officially conclude on Monday with the traditional Fuegos de la Octava, scheduled for around 11:00 p.m.
The event marks the return of the Cristo image to its Sanctuary, following a mass and the traditional procession through the streets of La Laguna.
A busy few days, then, with everything from independent music and children’s entertainment to volleyball, traditional competitions and one of the city’s most important religious celebrations.
And, eventually, the fireworks. Because no major Tenerife fiesta seems quite complete without them.
