Fancy taking the kids dancing on a Sunday morning?
The Sun Dance Family Sessions return to the Teatro Leal in La Laguna on Sunday 20 September, bringing together electronic music, movement and families in a slightly different kind of morning out.
The session starts at 11:30am in the Sala de Cámara.
Dancing for all ages
The sessions have been running since 2016, organised by TenerifeLAV, the Tenerife Laboratory of Living Arts and Citizenship, together with contemporary electronic music collective Neeve-Micromusic.
The idea is pretty simple. A DJ and a movement professional guide children and adults through a combination of music, movement and dancing.
There is a short physical warm-up followed by movement exercises before the music takes over.
It’s designed for families, children of all ages and anyone who fancies getting onto the dance floor without having to wait until midnight.
In fact, the organisers describe it as a space where people can loosen up, dance together and enjoy music in a healthy and celebratory environment.
More than 1,500 people have taken part
Since the project began, around 30 Sun Dance Family Sessions have been held in the Sala de Cámara at Teatro Leal.
The project has also collaborated with events including Tenerife Design Week, Candelaria’s PlanBB Festival of Art for Early Childhood and MÁC Festival.
More than 1,500 people have taken part over the years, dancing alongside the younger members of the family.
A long list of DJs and dance professionals have also been involved, including Estéban Pérez, Juana la Cubana, Haylavirgen, Funk Medicina, Eva Olvido, Dave Watts and many others.
The movement side has featured professionals including Saray Salcedo, Laura Marrero, Carmen Macías, Ana Beatriz Alonso, Acerina Amador, María Toledo, Carlota Mantecón and Lara Brown.

For PMR accessible seating, tickets must be purchased by telephone through the Teatro Leal box office on 922 265 433, or in person.
The box office is open Monday to Saturday from 11:00am to 1:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. On Sundays, it opens two hours before the performance.
A Sunday morning rave for the whole family. Much less painful than trying to explain to the children why Dad needs another coffee.
