Some places come and go. Others have been quietly doing the same thing for decades, which usually means they must be getting something right.
Bar Zumería El Bocadillo in Tacoronte opened back in 1988 and, nearly 40 years later, its chicken sandwiches are still the main attraction.
The classic chicken bocadillo comes with tomato, lettuce, onion and alioli. If you’re feeling a bit more ambitious, there’s the special version with egg and bacon added to the mix.
And it doesn’t all have to come in a bocadillo either. You can choose a pulguita, sandwich or even a croissant. Because apparently putting chicken and alioli in a croissant is a perfectly reasonable thing to do in Tenerife. Nobody’s complaining.
The menu also includes roast pork, loin, beef, tortilla, American-style fillings, burgers and hot dogs, so there’s plenty of choice if chicken isn’t your thing.
Nearly four decades and still going
Since opening in 1988, El Bocadillo has built its reputation around generous portions, decent ingredients and its chicken sandwiches.
You’ll find it on Carretera General del Norte, 100, in Tacoronte.
Opening hours are:
- Monday to Friday and Sunday: 7:45am to 11pm
- Saturday: 8am to 2pm and 7pm to 11pm
It currently has a 4.3-star rating on Google, although after nearly 40 years in business, I suspect the locals have already made up their minds.
