Tenerife continues to attract international film productions, and the latest one is currently causing a few temporary changes around La Laguna.
The film, The Last Seder, has been shooting on the island since July, with several locations in La Laguna being used for the production.
And yes, that means the usual combination of film crews, equipment, temporary road closures and confused drivers wondering why they can’t get where they were planning to go.
What is The Last Seder about?
According to production information, the story follows Moshe Loewenstein, who returns home from university to celebrate Passover while quietly trying to establish a new identity for himself.
Things take a rather dramatic turn during an already tense family dinner when his father’s disgruntled employee enters the house with a group of radicalised accomplices.
Then an ancient relic unlocks a mythical power.
Because apparently a difficult family dinner wasn’t quite enough drama on its own.
Trapped inside his childhood home, Moshe must find a way to overcome his captors while confronting his family’s legacy.
Traffic disruption in La Laguna until 14 September
La Laguna Town Hall has issued a notice warning residents and drivers about traffic and parking restrictions linked to the filming.
Several locations have been affected during the production, including Joaquín Turina, Quintín Benito, San Agustín, Camino Mesa Mota, Calle Anchieta, Avenida San Diego, Camino Fuentes Cañizares and the area around the Faculty of Fine Arts on Calle Radio Aficionados.
Some restrictions remain in place until 14 September.
Parking restrictions
Parking, except for authorised production vehicles, is prohibited in the following areas:
- The unpaved car park on Calle Urbanización San Diego, opposite number 1, until 11pm on 14 September.
- Camino Fuentes Cañizares, near the football stadium annex, from midnight on 8 September until 11pm on 9 September.
- Calle Radio Aficionados, near the Faculty of Fine Arts, from midnight on 1 September until 11pm on 7 September.
Road closures
There will also be intermittent closures affecting vehicles and pedestrians on Camino Fuentes Cañizares, near the football stadium annex, along with connecting streets that provide access to the area.
These closures are scheduled to take place between 7pm on 8 September and 5am on 9 September, with diversions in place where necessary.
So, if you’re planning to be driving around that part of La Laguna during those dates, it might be worth allowing a bit of extra time.
Film crews have become a fairly regular sight in Tenerife over the years, and while the occasional road closure can be a pain, it’s another reminder that the island has become a popular location for international productions.
Let’s just hope nobody accidentally wanders into shot while taking the dog for a walk.
