New Sculpture in Los Realejos Pays Tribute to May Traditions and Local Identity

A timple.

A maga.

Firecrackers.

If you know Los Realejos, you already know exactly what month we’re talking about.

Los Realejos Unveils “Homage to May” Sculpture

Los Realejos has officially unveiled:

🗿 “Homenaje a Mayo” (Homage to May)

A new public sculpture created to celebrate:

🎉 50 years of the official designation of the May Festivals
📅 1976 – 2026

Honouring one of the municipality’s most important and recognisable traditions.

A Sculpture Full of Local Symbols

The artwork is made from:

🛠 Polyester resin with bronze-effect patina

And brings together several symbols deeply linked to the May festivities.

The piece features:

👩 A woman dressed as a maga, wearing the medal of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios

🎶 A folk musician playing the timple

🧒 A child holding two firecrackers

Representing the historic rivalry and celebrations between:

🎆 Calle El Sol
🎆 Calle El Medio

Because in Los Realejos…fireworks aren’t just fireworks.

They’re basically local identity.

Blessing, Folklore and Floral Offering

The inauguration included:

⛪ Blessing by Father Ángelo Nardone

And participation from representatives of:

🌺 Cruz de Calle El Sol
🌺 Cruz de Calle El Medio

During the ceremony:

🎶 Agrupación Folclórica Acorán performed the Isa de Mayo

While residents offered flowers to the new cross installed in the square.

A proper Realejos inauguration really.

Celebrating 50 Years of the May Festivals

The sculpture forms part of the wider programme organised by Los Realejos Town Hall marking:

🎉 Half a century of the official May Festivals designation

Adding another permanent tribute to one of Tenerife’s most iconic celebrations.

Worth Knowing

Most towns build monuments to famous people.

Los Realejos builds one with a timple, fireworks and a child ready for fiesta season.

Which honestly feels very on brand.
