Greggs Is Opening in South Tenerife and British Tourists Will Probably Lose Their Minds

Well…

It’s official.

Greggs is coming to Tenerife.

Greggs Chooses Tenerife South for First International Store in Nearly 20 Years

The famous British bakery chain is opening a new branch at:

📍 Tenerife South Airport
✈️ International Departures Area

Later this month.

And judging by the reaction online already, some people seem more excited about this than their actual holidays.

Sausage Rolls Return Before the Flight Home

The new airport store will serve many of the usual Greggs favourites including:

🥐 Sausage rolls
🥧 Bakes
🥪 Sandwiches
🍩 Sweet treats

Basically the standard survival kit for British travellers.

Tenerife-Specific Menu Items Too

In fairness, they are at least trying to adapt slightly to the island.

The Tenerife branch will also include:

🥖 Spanish omelette breakfast rolls
🍊 Fresh orange juice prepared daily

So it’s not entirely sausage-roll diplomacy.

A Big Move for Greggs

This marks Greggs’ first international opening in almost two decades.

The company last operated outside the UK in Belgium back in 2008 before focusing entirely on domestic expansion.

Today, Greggs has:

🏪 More than 2,700 stores across the UK

And Tenerife South has now been chosen as the launch point for its overseas return.

Why Tenerife South Airport?

The airport handles around:

✈️ 13 million passengers annually

Many of them British tourists heading home after holidays in the Canary Islands.

Seating for Nearly 100 Customers

The new branch will also include:

🪑 Seating for 92 people

Meaning there’s now officially a place in Tenerife where you can eat a sausage roll while waiting for a Ryanair flight back to Birmingham.

What a world.

Worth Knowing

No official opening date has been confirmed yet…

But the shop is expected to open before the end of May.

And somewhere across Tenerife right now, a homesick Brit has just become very emotional reading this.
