Holy Week in Tacoronte: What to Expect This Year

Tacoronte doesn’t do things by halves when it comes to Semana Santa.

They’ve just released the full programme for 2026, and there’s plenty going on… as you’d expect.

A familiar face at the centre of it

This year’s poster features the Virgin of Sorrows from the Tagoro neighbourhood. If you know the area, you’ll probably recognise it. Proper local touch, nothing overly flashy.

Always nice to see they keep it tied to the town rather than turning it into something generic.

A busy couple of weeks

There are around 70 events planned across eight parishes, running from 24th March through to Easter Sunday.

It starts off fairly low-key with prayers and mass in Barranco Las Lajas, then builds up as the week goes on.

A few of the bigger moments:

  • Palm Sunday with the usual blessing of palms
  • The Lord’s Supper on the Thursday
  • Good Friday processions
  • Easter Vigil on the Saturday

And then everything wraps up on Easter Sunday with a procession around Plaza del Cristo.

Standard structure… but it’s the atmosphere that makes it.

There’s also a candlelit concert and the municipal band involved in the main processions, which adds a bit of weight to it all.

Behind the scenes

What most people don’t see is the planning.

The council and local police are already coordinating routes, safety, and logistics for the next couple of weeks. Not the glamorous side of things, but without it, none of it works.

Worth knowing

If you’re in the north around that time, expect road closures, crowds, and a lot of movement in the evenings.

But also… it’s one of those times where you actually see proper local Tenerife, not just the holiday version.
