Tenerife Bluetrail Cancelled Due to Storm Therese

The Tenerife Bluetrail 2026 has been called off.

Not postponed… not shortened… completely cancelled.

And it’s all down to the weather.

Storm Therese is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds across the island this week, and once you start talking about mountain routes at 2,000 metres plus… it stops being a sporting event and starts becoming a risk.

So the organisers have pulled it.

Probably the only sensible decision, to be fair.

Not a small event either

This isn’t some local fun run.

Over 3,400 runners from 64 countries were due to take part, with multiple race distances running through some of the toughest terrain on the island… including Teide National Park.

It’s part of the UTMB World Series as well, which puts it right up there on the international trail running calendar.

So cancelling it isn’t a light decision.

Why they couldn’t just move it

You’d think they could just shift it a few weeks.

They can’t.

The logistics alone are a headache… permits, safety teams, routes, international athletes… and then you’ve got the rest of the UTMB calendar to deal with.

Everything’s booked in tight.

So once it’s gone, it’s gone.

No 2026 edition.

Big names missing out

There were some serious runners lined up this year as well.

Courtney Dauwalter, for one… one of the biggest names in ultra-distance running.

Along with a number of other top athletes across the different race categories.

All of that… gone for this year.

The bigger picture

It’s a blow for the island, no doubt.

Events like this bring in a different type of visitor… athletes, support teams, longer stays… and they tend to spend properly while they’re here.

But at the end of the day, you can’t run a race through mountains in bad conditions and hope for the best.

Not worth it.
