If you like proper Canarian food, this is the sort of place you end up hearing about more than once.
El Canario in Ravelo has built a bit of a name for itself, especially for one thing… puchero.
And not the watered-down version either. The full thing.
The puchero everyone talks about
It’s become a bit of a reference point on the island. Even the guys from Guachinches Modernos have been in and said the same… if you want puchero in Tenerife, this is one of the places.
They serve it properly, all in, and then the usual debate starts… vinegar and olive oil, mojo verde, or leave it alone. Everyone’s got an opinion.
What tells you more than anything is the volume… they’re knocking out 200 to 300 pucheritos. That doesn’t happen by accident.
Not just puchero
Before you even get there, most people start with escaldón… which is about as heavy as it sounds. Proper “this will fill you up for the day” food.
Then you’ve got things like goat meat with a bit of spice to it, and from what people say, you can pretty much point at anything on the menu and you won’t go far wrong.
That’s usually a good sign.
Good food, decent prices
This is where it stands out.
It’s not trying to be fancy, and it’s not priced like it is either. You get solid, traditional food without feeling like you’ve been stung at the end of it.
Which, these days, is half the battle.
The important bits
📍 Calle Real Orotava, 44 – Ravelo
⭐ Around 4.3 on Google, which is usually a fair reflection
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 9:30 to 16:30
Closed Mondays and Tuesdays… probably needed after the weekend rush
Worth it?
If you’re after proper Canarian food, not dressed up for tourists, this is one of those places that does exactly what it should.
No fuss. Just good food, done right.
