Services across Tenerife will change from Monday, with university buses returning and some summer beach routes being withdrawn
If you’ve been using the bus around Tenerife over the summer, there are a few changes coming.
Titsa will return to its winter timetable from Monday, coinciding with the start of the new school year and the end of the summer season.
The aim is fairly straightforward. Adjust the service to where people actually need to go once schools, universities and workplaces return to their normal routines.
Cabildo president Rosa Dávila said the changes are intended to improve the public transport offer and make buses a more attractive alternative to taking the car.
And with Tenerife’s roads being what they are, that’s not a bad thing.
University services return
One of the main changes will be the return of Titsa’s university shuttle services, which were introduced in 2025.
The direct services connect the north and south of Tenerife with the Guajara campus, making life a little easier for students travelling across the island.
More than 43,200 passengers used the university shuttles last year, so there is clearly demand for them.
Dávila said the figures show that people will use public transport when there are practical alternatives that fit around their lives.
The winter timetable is therefore not simply about putting the old schedules back. Titsa says services need to change throughout the year depending on where demand is.
Some routes return to normal
Several bus routes will return to their usual timetables after the summer adjustments.
This includes lines 138 and 139, which connect Santa Cruz with Radazul, while lines 021 and 023 will also move back from their summer schedules.
In the north, line 224 will return to its normal route and will no longer pass through El Boquerón.
There will also be changes to lines 376 and 380, along with other services linked to schools and educational travel.
Meanwhile, summer services such as lines 546 and 948, which were introduced to serve beach areas, will be withdrawn following the end of the summer season.
A different Tenerife in winter
Mobility councillor Eulalia García explained that Titsa has to adapt its network throughout the year.
During the summer, more services were directed towards coastal areas as demand increased.
Now the emphasis shifts towards the journeys people make for work, school and university.
It’s one of those changes you notice when you live here. Tenerife doesn’t really have one transport pattern throughout the year.
The beaches might be quieter, but the school run is back, students are returning and thousands of people are getting back to their normal routines.
And that means the buses need to do the same.
