The Tenerife Sandwiches So Stuffed They’re a Challenge to Finish

There’s a place in Tenerife that plenty of people probably drive past every day without giving it a second thought.

But tucked away in Oroteanda Baja is Bocaditos Chafira, a food truck serving sandwiches so generously filled that finishing one can become something of a personal challenge.

And we’re not talking about a polite little ham and cheese sandwich here.

Meet the Frankenstein

The team behind @guachinchesmodernos recently stopped by after admitting they’d passed the place thousands of times without ever trying it.

They decided to tackle two of the sandwiches on offer.

The first was the Frankenstein, priced at €11. The name is fairly self-explanatory once you look at what’s inside.

It’s packed with pork, beef, loin, bacon, onion and egg.

One of the visitors described it as “a beast”, while they both agreed it might be the most heavily filled sandwich they’d ever eaten.

The mixto, at €7.50, is a slightly simpler option, although “simple” is probably relative here. It comes with beef, pork, cheese, tomato and red onion.

Their verdict was that it was seriously good.

Don’t go expecting a light lunch

According to the team at Bocaditos Chafira, their record is somewhere between 160 and 170 sandwiches in a single day.

They also offer a bocadillo de pata on certain days, along with other options including choripán.

The warning from @guachinchesmodernos is a fairly simple one. One person trying to finish one of the larger sandwiches might struggle.

They ordered two and couldn’t manage them both.

Fair enough.

Where to find it

Bocaditos Chafira is located on Calle Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, parcela 211, Oroteanda Baja, next to Sierra y González.

It currently has a 4.9-star rating on Google, which suggests plenty of people have survived the experience and gone back for more.

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 6:30am to 5pm
  • Saturday: 8:30am to 1:30pm
  • Sunday: Closed

If you’re in the area and fancy seeing what all the fuss is about, perhaps take someone with you.

Mainly because you’re probably going to need help finishing it.
