If you’re bored of the usual ham and cheese sandwich, La Mentirosilla in Barranco Grande is doing things a little differently.
The recently renovated bar has built its menu around substantial sandwiches and tostas, using sourdough bread and combinations that aren’t exactly what you’d find in every bar on the island.
Food creators @guachinchesmodernos recently visited and highlighted the sandwiches, particularly the homemade sourdough bread and the way the ingredients are put together.
Sandwiches with a bit more going on
One of the most popular options is El Palmero, said to be one of the best-selling sandwiches in Barranco Grande.
It combines cheese, shredded chicken, palm honey and sweet mustard.
Then there’s El Cerdo Prohibido, which originally appeared as an off-menu special but proved popular enough to stay.
That one comes with pork fillet, smoked bacon, grilled apple and truffle mayonnaise, all served in sourdough bread.
The chicken is also prepared in-house, with the bar explaining that they make it fresh every day.
Which sounds considerably better than something that’s been sitting around waiting for someone to order it.
The tostas are worth a look too
La Mentirosilla also has a selection of tostas.
The food creators tried the chicken tosta, made with smoked cheese, chicken, rocket and honey and mustard sauce.
The other was the mortadella tosta, with burrata, rocket and pesto.
Both received the thumbs up.
To go alongside the sandwiches and tostas, the bar also serves fresh juices and fruit smoothies.
