There’s a new splash of colour in El Toscal, and it won’t be there forever.
Calle Santiago, next to Casa Pisaca, has been decorated with a canopy of colourful umbrellas, creating a rather photogenic corner of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The installation is temporary and has been put in place by the Centro-Ifara District as part of an effort to bring a bit more colour, shade and life to the neighbourhood.
A new attraction in El Toscal
The colourful umbrellas are part of the wider activity taking place around Calle de La Rosa, which officially celebrates its return this Saturday, 12 September, following a lengthy renovation.
The installation on Calle Santiago is intended to add another attraction to the area, as well as providing some shade during the warmer parts of the day.
So if you’ve been looking for somewhere slightly different to take a photo in Santa Cruz, you know where to go.
Just don’t leave it too long. The umbrella installation is temporary.
Vive La Rosa
The main event on Saturday will be “Vive La Rosa”, running from 10:00 to 14:00 along Calle de La Rosa.
After three years of works, the street is being brought back to life with activities aimed at residents, families, young people and local businesses.
The programme will be spread along different sections of the street, with everything from children’s activities and sport to music, dancing and commercial promotions.
Between La Luna and Santa Rosalía, there will be a photocall and commercial roulette, while the section between Santa Rosalía and Santa Clara will feature live music.
Families will find games, face painting and inflatables between Santa Clara and San Francisco Javier.
From 11:00 to 12:00, there will also be dance performances and a masterclass from the Escuela de Flamenco Genaro Arteaga and Wonder Dance Center.
Further along, between San Francisco Javier and number 43, visitors can try hockey, pickleball and mini golf, with the Santa Cruz Entrena mobile unit also making an appearance.
Something for the younger crowd
The section between number 43 and San Martín will focus on younger visitors, with tote bag workshops, role-playing games, wellbeing and beauty activities, a photography exhibition created by young people and various gaming activities.
There will also be music along the section between El Saludo and San Isidro.
So, between the newly renovated street and the colourful umbrellas nearby, El Toscal should be looking rather different this weekend.
