Tenerife is getting another 37 buses for the TITSA fleet, with the Cabildo investing almost €20 million in new vehicles due to enter service in 2027.
The aim is fairly straightforward. More buses, more capacity and better connections on some of the island’s busiest routes.
The investment will particularly affect services linking La Laguna, Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz, including the heavily used 014, 015 and 363 routes.
More space on the busiest routes
Lines 014 and 015 are the busiest in the TITSA network, carrying more than eight million passengers during 2025.
Of the 37 new buses, 23 will be allocated to these two routes.
They will be 18-metre articulated buses capable of carrying 102 passengers, compared with the current 13-metre buses, which carry around 72.
That’s an extra 30 people per journey.
The idea is to deal with the particularly busy periods on these routes, while the existing 13-metre buses will then be moved elsewhere to increase services on other busy routes around the island.
More buses for other routes
The buses being moved from lines 014 and 015 will be used to improve frequencies on six other high-demand routes in northern and southern Tenerife.
The investment also includes eight 15-metre buses for line 363, which connects Puerto de la Cruz with Buenavista.
These will replace older 13-metre vehicles, increasing capacity on the route.
Three electric buses for Anaga
All 37 new vehicles will be classified as ECO buses, with three being fully electric and producing zero direct emissions.
Those electric buses will be used in the Anaga Rural Park, where the Cabildo says they will help provide more sustainable public transport while adapting services to the needs of local communities.
According to Mobility Councillor Eulalia García, the move forms part of the wider effort to improve sustainable transport in Anaga.
The renewed TITSA fleet has already reduced CO2 emissions by more than 7%, despite the number of services increasing by 234,000 since 2023.
Passenger numbers have also risen significantly, with an 80% increase in ridership over the same period.
388 new buses in three years
The latest order means Tenerife will have added 388 new buses over three years, with Cabildo investment in the fleet exceeding €145 million.
President Rosa Dávila said the accelerated fleet renewal has allowed TITSA to increase both services and frequencies, with more than 125,000 additional users choosing public transport over the past three years.
The idea is to make getting around Tenerife a little easier for the people who actually need the buses every day, whether that’s getting to work, school, hospital appointments or simply crossing the island to see family.
And with Tenerife’s traffic being what it is, having a few more buses on the road certainly won’t hurt.
