Tenerife Restaurant Awarded New Repsol Solete Serves Traditional Canarian Cuisine with Atlantic Views

A family-run restaurant in Taganana has earned one of Spain’s newest Repsol Soletes, recognising its authentic Canarian cuisine, locally sourced ingredients and spectacular setting overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Casa África, located opposite El Roque de las Bodegas Beach in the Anaga Rural Park, is one of more than 250 establishments across Spain included in the latest edition of the Guía Repsol Soletes, which celebrate welcoming restaurants, cafés and bars full of character rather than fine dining alone.

In the Canary Islands, only two venues joined this year’s list: Casa África in Tenerife and La Raspa in Arrecife, Lanzarote.

Recommended by actress Toni Acosta

Casa África was selected following a recommendation from Tenerife-born actress Toni Acosta, who highlighted the restaurant as one of her favourite places to enjoy papas arrugadas with mojo picón by the sea.

The restaurant has built a loyal following thanks to its combination of traditional recipes, family hospitality and one of the island’s most picturesque coastal locations.

A family tradition since 1962

Casa África first opened in 1962 inside a former winery and has remained in the same family ever since.

Over the decades, it has stayed true to the flavours of Anaga, serving classic Canarian dishes prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the surrounding coastline, farmland and nearby villages.

Popular dishes include:

  • Fresh fish of the day
  • Octopus
  • Mussels
  • Homemade fish fritters
  • Traditional potaje
  • Grilled local cheese with mojo sauces and jams
  • Papas arrugadas with mojo

Its commitment to kilometre-zero produce has become one of the restaurant’s defining features.

No reservations… just join the queue

One aspect that makes Casa África stand out is its refusal to accept reservations.

Tables are allocated strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, with diners simply arriving, adding their name to the waiting list and enjoying a drink on the restaurant’s spacious terrace while overlooking the ocean until a table becomes available.

In an era dominated by online booking systems, the restaurant’s relaxed approach has become part of its charm.

Dining in the heart of Anaga

The setting is as much a part of the experience as the food itself.

Overlooking the black sands of El Roque de las Bodegas Beach, Casa África sits among the dramatic cliffs and rugged coastline of the Anaga Massif, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2015.

For many visitors, the scenic drive to Taganana, the Atlantic views and the relaxed atmosphere are all part of what makes a meal here so memorable.

A recognition for authentic hospitality

The Guía Repsol Soletes, launched in 2021, recognise cafés, restaurants, terraces, wine bars and other informal venues that offer genuine hospitality and memorable experiences.

According to Guía Repsol Director María Ritter, this year’s selection highlights small businesses that create welcoming spaces for people to enjoy during their holidays.

For Casa África, the award recognises more than six decades of serving traditional Canarian cuisine in one of Tenerife’s most beautiful coastal settings.
