You can buy a property in Tenerife for €10 million.
Or, for roughly the same money, you could probably spend the rest of your life explaining to people why you did.
According to a report by property portal Idealista, the most expensive home currently for sale in the Canary Islands is a luxury villa in La Caleta, Adeje, with an asking price of €10 million.
The property has 963 square metres of built space and sits in one of the most sought-after areas of Tenerife’s south.
La Caleta has been moving firmly into luxury territory for years now, so perhaps it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Still, €10 million for a house is a number that takes a moment to sink in.
The most expensive home in the Canary Islands
The villa sits at the top of the Canarian property market, although Tenerife’s record-breaking home looks almost modest when compared with the most expensive properties currently for sale elsewhere in Spain.
Almost.
The national number one is Villa Bellagio in Marbella’s Golden Mile, with an asking price of €70 million.
Yes, seventy million.
The property sits on a 14,000-square-metre plot and has 13 bedrooms, several swimming pools, a gym, sauna, bowling alley, bar and cinema.
At that price, you’d hope the bins are included.
Mallorca and Marbella dominate the list
The second most expensive property in Spain is a coastal mansion in Pollença, Mallorca, listed at €46 million and with private access to the sea.
Third place goes to Villa Solitaire in Palma, designed by architect Matteo Thun and currently priced at €39.5 million.
The rest of the top ten is largely split between Mallorca and the Costa del Sol, with properties in Benahavís, Palma, Puigpunyent, Esporles and Calvià.
Prices range from €24.5 million to €34 million.
So while the €10 million villa in La Caleta is the undisputed king of the Canary Islands property market, there is still some catching up to do if Tenerife wants to compete with Marbella and Mallorca in the ultra-luxury stakes.
Then again, with the way parts of the Tenerife property market have been going lately, I probably wouldn’t rule it out.
