Suzete Heads to Benidorm Fest 2027 with Tenerife Roots and a Growing Music Career

Singer Suzete is heading to Benidorm Fest 2027, joining 17 other artists hoping to make their mark in one of Spain’s biggest televised music competitions.

She’ll be familiar to some viewers from Operación Triunfo in 2023 and her collaboration with Lola Índigo on the remix of Kombolewa. But there’s also a Tenerife connection. Suzete lived on the island from the age of 11, having been born in São Tomé and Príncipe and raised between Portugal and the Canary Islands.

RTVE announced the 18 competing artists on Wednesday, with the semi-finals scheduled for 26 and 28 January 2027 and the final on Saturday, 30 January.

From Operación Triunfo to the Benidorm stage

Suzete first attracted wider attention through Operación Triunfo. She was the first contestant eliminated in the 2023 series, but the exposure gave her a platform to start building a career beyond the programme.

Her track Kombolewa, particularly the remix featuring Lola Índigo, helped introduce her to a wider audience and marked an important step in her early career.

Her sound blends afropop, afrobeats, R&B, pop and urban influences, drawing on the different cultures that have shaped her life. For Benidorm Fest, she plans to bring together African, Atlantic and Latin sounds while continuing to develop her own musical identity.

Celebrating her cultural roots

In 2025, Suzete released Baby Wata, a track inspired by Mami Wata, a spiritual figure associated with African traditions. The song reflected her interest in celebrating her heritage through music.

She has also performed at festivals including Rototom and BBK, adding live experience to her growing list of credits.

Benidorm Fest offers another opportunity to reach a wider audience, with the added attention that comes from competing on national television.

The competing songs are due to be revealed on 17 December, ahead of the festival shows in January 2027.

For anyone following Tenerife’s links to the Spanish music scene, Suzete is certainly one to keep an eye on.
