This is one of those upgrades that actually makes a difference day to day.
Not flashy… but important.
What’s Changed
The Oncology Day Hospital in the south has expanded by 600m²…
And it’s now ready for final approval before fully opening.
What That Means
The new setup includes:
- 3 treatment rooms
- 14 chairs + 2 beds
- Oncology and pharmacy offices
- Waiting areas
All designed to handle over 5,000 treatments a year.
Already Making an Impact
Even before this expansion, the centre has:
- Reduced emergency visits
- Cut hospital admissions by 20%
- Saved patients trips to Santa Cruz
Which, for many people, is a big deal.
The Bigger Picture
There’s still more planned…
A wider expansion project is in the pipeline, although it’s taking longer than expected to move forward.
Local groups are pushing to keep things moving.
Why It Matters
For patients in the south, this isn’t just extra space…
It’s less travelling, shorter waiting times, and care closer to home.
Worth Knowing
Healthcare improvements don’t always get much attention…
…but they’re usually the ones that matter most when you actually need them.
