An evening celebrating local fishing, Canarian food and the fishermen who have helped shape the town
If you like your Tenerife events with a bit of local character, the 12th Fish Fair in Los Cristianos is worth putting on the calendar.
Taking place on Saturday, 29 August, the event will celebrate the area’s fishing heritage and highlight the importance of local artisanal fishing, while paying tribute to the fishermen of Los Cristianos.
The fair is organised by the Arona Town Hall and Arona Economic Development and will take place around Plaza de la Pescadora and the Muelle Viejo, from 17:00 to 23:00.
Music and activities at Plaza de la Pescadora
The plaza will host the main exhibition, with the Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes Fishermen’s Guild presenting the 2026 Fish Fair exhibition from 17:00 to 23:00.
There will also be activities for children, with workshops running from 17:00 to 20:00.
The evening’s entertainment includes:
- 18:30: Performance by Asociación Sociocultural Herederos de Chasna
- 20:00: Performance by Grupo Vinomios Folk
- 21:30: Musical show De Vuelta, presented by Compañía JEITA
Michelin-starred cooking by the old port
Over at the Muelle Viejo, the focus turns firmly towards food.
From 19:00 to 21:00, Michelin-starred chef Diego Schattenhofer, Executive Chef at 1973 Taste Restaurant, will take part in a special showcooking alongside local fishermen from Arona.
It’s a nice combination of professional kitchen skills and the people who actually know the local catch.
The evening finishes with a seafood tasting from 21:30 to 23:00, featuring traditional recipes prepared in the style of the fishermen of Los Cristianos.
The showcooking and tasting will be presented by Isabel Pérez Navarro.
A celebration of Los Cristianos’ fishing heritage
The Fish Fair isn’t simply about eating seafood, although obviously that’s a fairly important part of it.
It’s also about recognising the role that artisanal fishing has played in the history and identity of Los Cristianos, and giving local fishermen a central role in an event that brings together food, music and tradition.
So if you’re in the south on 29 August, head down to Los Cristianos, have a wander around the old port and see what they’re cooking.
Just don’t arrive expecting a quiet Saturday evening by the sea. There will be quite a lot going on.
