The coastline of La Laguna is once again flying the Blue Flag after four locations received the prestigious environmental award, recognising their quality, accessibility and commitment to conservation.
The Blue Flags have been raised at the Bajamar natural pools, Jóver, Arenisco in Punta del Hidalgo, and the San Juanito Coastal Path, reinforcing La Laguna’s position as one of Tenerife’s leading municipalities for coastal environmental management.
The official ceremony was attended by Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, alongside councillors and local community representatives.
A Coastal Benchmark in Tenerife
Mayor Gutiérrez highlighted that La Laguna now holds the highest number of Blue Flags in Tenerife, reflecting years of investment in maintaining and improving its coastal spaces.
The municipality has consistently earned these distinctions for more than a decade, recognising ongoing efforts to protect natural environments while enhancing facilities for residents and visitors.
Recent improvements include upgraded lifeguard towers, enhanced rescue services and the introduction of amphibious chairs to improve accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
Recognition for the San Juanito Coastal Path
The San Juanito Path, also known as the Punta del Hidalgo Coastal Path, has also received its sixth consecutive Blue Trail award.
The route has been recognised for its environmental value, educational importance and ongoing work to protect local ecosystems while improving access for walkers and nature enthusiasts.
What the Blue Flag Represents
The Blue Flag is one of the world’s most recognised environmental quality awards for beaches, marinas and coastal areas. In Spain, it is managed by ADEAC (Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Affairs) and assesses criteria including water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility and sustainability.
For La Laguna, these four Blue Flags represent another milestone in its commitment to preserving the natural beauty of its coastline while ensuring high-quality facilities for everyone who enjoys it.
