International Ocean Film Tour Returns to Tenerife This Weekend

One of Europe’s biggest ocean film festivals is making another stop in Tenerife, bringing an evening of adventure, inspiring stories and marine conservation to La Laguna.

The International Ocean Film Tour Volume 12 will be screened on Sunday 5th July at 6:00pm at the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna, giving audiences the chance to experience five international documentaries that celebrate the ocean and the people whose lives revolve around it.

Following previous sold-out screenings on the island, the festival returns with a carefully selected programme featuring stories from across the globe. This year’s films take viewers from the giant waves of Hawaii to the Pacific Ocean, the coast of South Africa and beyond, combining breathtaking cinematography with powerful messages about adventure, resilience and protecting our oceans.

Among this year’s highlights is Christa Funk: Passion for the Waves, following one of the world’s leading female big-wave surf photographers as she documents some of the planet’s most challenging surf breaks.

The Last Dive tells the emotional story of veteran diver Terry Kennedy as he searches for Willy, the manta ray that changed his life more than four decades ago and inspired his passion for marine conservation.

Adventure lovers can also enjoy A Different Beast, which follows brothers Lachlan, Ewan and Jamie Maclean as they attempt to row across the Pacific Ocean without stopping.

The programme also includes Up the Coast, following world champion kiteboarder Kevin Langeree along South Africa’s spectacular coastline, and Home Is the Ocean, which explores the extraordinary lifestyle of the Schwörer family, who chose to raise their children while sailing around the world.

Now in its twelfth year, the International Ocean Film Tour has become Europe’s leading travelling ocean film festival, using cinema to inspire audiences while raising awareness of marine conservation and the importance of protecting our seas.

The Tenerife event forms part of a European tour visiting around 230 venues, with the Spanish and Portuguese edition organised by Kinema Producciones.

Tickets are available through the International Ocean Film Tour website and the Paraninfo box office.
