El Sobradillo will celebrate its fiestas in honour of Nuestra Señora del Carmen this weekend, with three days of music, community events, sport and tradition.
The programme includes children’s activities, religious celebrations, live music and the XIII Carrera Benéfica del Suroeste Lolo Dorta, an event that continues to honour the memory of the person whose name it carries.
Three Days of Fiestas
The celebrations begin on Friday at 10:30pm with a live music performance from Orquesta Los Kadetes in the square on Calle Tordo.
Saturday starts with children’s activities from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Later that evening, a mass will take place at 7:30pm, followed by the procession at 8:30pm.
The Saturday night celebrations will continue from 10:30pm, with Orquesta Acapulco and Grupo Pa Ti providing the music.
Sport and Solidarity
Sunday will bring one of the main events of the weekend, with the XIII Carrera Benéfica del Suroeste Lolo Dorta starting at 9:00am from Calle Columbrete, at Plaza de Pepe.
The six-kilometre route will pass through Santa María del Mar, Los Alisios and Parque de La Estrella.
Javier Rivero, councillor for the Suroeste District, said the race reflects values closely associated with the area, including participation, effort, solidarity and community spirit.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez also highlighted the role sport can play in bringing people together and promoting solidarity, while recognising the importance of keeping the event going as part of the district’s community life.
Sunday’s programme will continue with mass at 12:00pm before the fiestas come to an end from 6:30pm with the Gran Tardeo Fin de Fiestas.
Grupo Atlantic and Dany García will provide the entertainment for the final afternoon.
For three days, the streets and squares of El Sobradillo will once again become a meeting point for local residents, with the Lolo Dorta charity race providing a particularly important reminder of the community spirit behind these celebrations.
