The people of El Rosario will soon get to have their say on when one of the municipality’s biggest annual events should take place.
The Town Hall is planning a public survey to decide the future day and timetable of the Romería de La Esperanza, one of the main events in the town’s annual celebrations.
Should It Stay in the Afternoon?
This year’s romería was a little different.
Because of the heatwave affecting Tenerife and the rest of the Canary Islands, the 2026 Romería de La Esperanza was moved to the afternoon, rather than taking place at its traditional time.
The change apparently went down well with many of those taking part and watching, and it has now sparked a debate about whether the new timetable should become permanent.
The Final Decision Goes to Residents
El Rosario’s mayor, Escolástico Gil, said he had received plenty of opinions, both publicly and privately, since the change.
Some people want to keep the afternoon schedule, while others would prefer to return to the traditional timetable.
Rather than making the decision behind closed doors, the Town Hall wants local residents to have their say.
Details of the survey, including the voting dates, available options and how residents can take part, will be announced shortly.
So, should the Romería de La Esperanza stick with its new afternoon schedule, or go back to the way it has always been?
